Last year I had the pleasure of briefly working with a friend from Canada, Aisha Shillingford (now known as ‘Shalli’…) when she visited New York for a short while.  We collaborated a tiny bit on a couple of rough tunes and shared our thoughts on the future of both our music and pondered on what we could do together on the audio plane. We’re both eclectic in musical taste and open to new thingsm, while definitely on a constant stuying music of the past to unlock the key to what really moves people, both literally and figuratively. I gave Aisha a track I produced with heavy Leon Ware samples. I’ve been fascinated with his music for a lil while now, after discovering who he was while searching for Minnie Ripperton tunes I’d not yet heard. Minnie Ripperton appeared on an album of Ware’s entitled, ‘Musical Massage’. The album cover is quite erotic. One of the most interesting things about him to me is connection with Marvin Gaye. (Do some research and find out why Leon Ware is indeed and integral piece of history’s magical musical puzzle.)

Anyway, Aisha came up with something very free and open. Like Roy Ayers tune in ways because of it’s sparcity in lyrics. Going for a mood. We dicussed the possibilities of having some words spoken in a language other then English. French, Japanese or Spanish wouldn’t do it. We both agreed that a female speaking  Portuguese would be the move. We haven’t found that female. We’re kinda in limbo at this point on this track. I never got a definitive mix of the vocals thus far laid and we’re not regularly in contact like we outtah be. Rest assured we will complete this song when the time is right…
