Sooner or later I’m going to get around to discussing these hot mess showcases and competitions going on in this fair city of New York. You are most welcome to contribute your thoughts about the subject. Right now I want to share with you a video of an emcee named Elus. A Bronx native I’ve known for some time. My feelings were a bit hurt when I saw that he was performing at a #hotmessshowcase. I don’t dig ‘pay for play’ situations and anything that’s at the end of the day about paying some promoter’s rent. Anyway, Elus is tight when it comes to lyricism+content+universality (I know that’s not a word, sue me…) he’s very intelligent.
We spoke about the whole performing at showcases thing. I expressed with him my feelings about it. Of course an audience is an audience, and I respect reaching out in whatever shape form or fashion you must. But I still wasn’t too thrilled about seeing someone who I feel deserves to rock for a captive audience rockin at a motley crew of a show to an inattentive crowd. Regardless, it is what it is. I support Elus. I know what he’s capable of and I know what his dedication towards this craft is. So I’m going to do what I always do. Create awareness. If you dig what you hear or see. Even before you share this info. Let Elus know. Email. Tweet. That’s what artists really need. They need to know that what they’re doing is actually reaching folks and affecting them.

P.S. Elus is an engineer. Get at him if you need any recording work done.
