So after the response for my test video for the song Air Wave last week, I got to thinking about a couple things. One is my major lack of concentration. Yes indeed, I have a hard time staying focused. While editing that video I was determined to meet the challenge of creating in a program that I can hardly stand, leading to the other thing I’d been thinking about. Doing that video help me discover one of the ways I can actually get focused. By being in the zone. Having flow as they say. Most times these aren’t things that you do consciously. They just happen. You get into a workout and you totally forget that you are. You meditate and forget where you are or transport from where you are even. I noticed the same sensation of sorts while editing Air Wave. Thinking back, I went through the same process while working on Alien Linkage. What I realize for me is the importance of just doing one thing sometimes. No multi-tasking. No tweeting or half watching television. In order for me to get in the zone and knock something out I have to from the start make up my mind that I’m going to do it. Then I need to get in a comfortable place. Pretty simple I guess. Another situation that’s similar in ways is how I made it through washing the dishes the other day. I really don’t enjoy it. I figured out how to make a process out of it and to add to the general order in which I clean the different types of dishes I found the perfect music to work to. John Coltrane.
