Desperate Housewives

I vaguely remember how this track came together. I believe Verse all gave me the beat. I liked it. Wrote to it, most likely immediately after listening. Recorded. Listened a few times and sent it over to Coole High. He’s pretty quick too. So its likely he had something the same day, recorded it or at least the day after. I think I put it online and Sumkid listened. Said he had something and he sent vocals over. We had a few issues with the mixes and I actually wanted a few adjustments made to the actual track so we could do a rerecord and get an official mix to release this as ‘real’ single. With so much going on it just hasn’t been possible to get it done like I really want it done. Not to say that it can’t be done in the future. The song is well liked by a number of folks, we’ve performed it in part on stage a few times and it’s even been tossed up on few indie radio shows. All in all though it’s not ‘complete’, but I want people to hear it anyway. I want you all to hear Coole High and Sumkid, two very close friends and mentors of mine. They play a large part in the development of the artist that is iAreConscious.

PS: I encourage you to check out both Coole High and Sumkid’s respective, ever evolving bodies of work. They are legends in the making.

Candace Parker: Exhibit E+ – Eglamore C & Maybe

NOKIA Theatre L.A. Live

I downloaded, ‘Exhibits A-Z’ an instrumental album by The Architect a few days back. When I arrived at track five, Exhibit D – Find A Way, I immediately started writing. I came up with a song, ‘Maybe’ which I intend on singing at some point in the near future. Still working out some things with it. Anyway, I’d spent enough time with it Sunday and decided to continue listening to the rest of the album. I haven’t heard all the instrumentals yet because I stopped to write again on the next track, Exhibit E – Eglamore. This one is interesting. The reason being, I decided I’d try my best to write something in my head. I rarely ever do this. If i do, it’s because I have no choice and I don’t want to lose anything I think may lead to a great verse or song.

So, I get a few lines in my head and I tell my folks Coole High and Ciph Diggy about the whole making up something in my head. I let Coole listen to the track and what rhyme I’d come up to that point. His response was simply, ‘finish that and send it to me’. I got up this morning and knocked out the following scratch vocal, in one take, which is surprising. Yeah, I’m being honest. For a while I’ve been having general issues with recording. I’m working on it.

She was a champion, an all star,
a master of the triple threat position
on all fours. A tall broad, with nice claws
teen wolf, she wolf, with no flaws
if it came down to it, she could spit bars
or strip cars, a pit boss
quickly tell a Ace, king, queen, on a jack to get lost,
joker you poke her face, nah… she poke yours
give you more dimples
a discount, a buck fifty when the fare is 2.25
no free rides
she hardbody

A Monthly Bondfire: Very Successful

I was just on the phone with my friend Creature and he said something that totally makes sense. What he said was, ‘Accept compliments, say thank you and when you’re alone,  that’s the time to go over in your mind what you could’ve done better’. Don’t take away from the moment by analyzing your work right then.’ He’s absolutely correct. Last night was very successful. Surely the event is not exactly where I want it to be at this point but it’s getting there. The most important thing is that the people in attendance enjoyed themselves. The crowd stayed for the duration. Even with a host of technical difficulties things went well. A big part of doing this event for me personally is showing and proving various things in terms of building community and setting a standard for quality. I’m happy with the way things are going and I’m learning to appreciate the results from the energy I put in to make this thing happen.

A Monthly Bondfire takes place at The Bowery Poetry Club every last Tuesday of the month at 10PM. Check out bowerypoetry.com

Being plastered all over the cover of entertainment magazines generally has no bearing on whether or not the artists pictured, actually live up to what the articles inside them mention...”

Bondfire: Mic’s Open Show 10:30 -11:30pm

Think MTV Unplugged, Def Poetry/Comedy Jam & SNL. During Bondfire: Mic’s Open Show, open mic participants are guest of the host, ‘The Bronx Über Villain’. Like medieval times where kings were entertained by the likes of jesters and musicians, performers do the same for the audience as well as , ‘The Bronx Über Villain’. Each performance concludes with a mostly humorous comment from the host. The official show once edited for television and dvd will have a mix of the most outstanding open mic performances and out takes, live performances from the Bondfire: Concert Series, video interviews with various artists, comedy sketches and special ‘The Bronx Über Villain’ commentary.

Bondfire: Concert Series 11:30pm-until

People aren’t too enthused these days with live shows. They never seem to start on time. Artists either cancel or show up and aren’t that impressive when they do. New York is a great city that has a reputation for being the starting point, and place of discovery of some of the greatest musicians to ever do it. Bondfire: Concert Series is about regaining the confidence of music lovers and creating lasting memories. Simply having a wonderful time. We’re saying, ‘No To Mediocrity!’.
