Scratch prod.by Silent

I really felt like recording something that has nothing to do with the album, “Trap” that I’m working on. I have random beats in places that producers have given to me. Most I’ll never record anything over. I generally don’t like writing to or rhyming over what most would consider conventional underground hiphop tracks or boombap. My mind has been set on the future of what one can create rhyme and song over and deliver in a more sophisticated fashion. I’ve been cultivating my ‘style’. Anyway, I was looking through a folder of rhymes and a folder of beats. I found a beat. I found two rhymes. I pieced together a chorus from one and a partial verse from another and came up with what you’re about to hear. Some ol’ rough tune just to get a lil bit of exercise.

Tell me what you think. How does it make you feel?

Leave a comment. How else am I supposed to know whether or not you listened?

ice berg slimmin it
knee sore from stage dives
walk primitive
then we rise

i got some fam that can’t stay outtah jail
low cash no shoe box stash, can’t pay bail
can’t catch a break, thinkin mask and escape
seems peace is a dream, trynah beat a court case
and world is so small. so many toss stones
don’t even look where they’re thrown
take a tour of the blocks where there’s chalk on the ground
where ems don’t come around, now scream…[listen] no sound
livin life on hype life on height
don’t look down, don’t look over, the streets are intoxicated, they won’t get sober
so what’s the course of action when dark clouds are loomin
and death is passin… take a breath fullah life.. disarmin the knight
exhale… in mind take flight

No malice in under pants: I Wanna Trap

Why do I do such short pieces? Because it’s an exercise for me. I’m perfecting my ability to tell a story or relay some intel in under a minute. If you don’t dig it then mind yah business. Just kidding. But seriously there is a method to the madness. I don’t do things just to do’em. I do what I enjoy ultimately, that’s the ‘simple’ answer. Take it or leave it. Question. Would you rather me just do any ol thing, or be precise and create something with an inkling of a real idea or purpose behind it? Be honest. If you dig it you’ll listen to it again. And again. It may frustrate you because it’s so short. You’ll appreciate the real songs and full length albums a whole lot more when they arrive. It’s training day everyday for us all.

The following is, “I Wanna Trap” over Snoop Dogg’s “I Wanna Rock”… I dig the simplistic track, gives me space to operate.

#Hotmessshowcase Part. 1 Introducing Elus

Sooner or later I’m going to get around to discussing these hot mess showcases and competitions going on in this fair city of New York. You are most welcome to contribute your thoughts about the subject. Right now I want to share with you a video of an emcee named Elus. A Bronx native I’ve known for some time. My feelings were a bit hurt when I saw that he was performing at a #hotmessshowcase. I don’t dig ‘pay for play’ situations and anything that’s at the end of the day about paying some promoter’s rent.  Anyway, Elus is tight when it comes to lyricism+content+universality (I know that’s not a word, sue me…) he’s very intelligent.

We spoke about the whole performing at showcases thing. I expressed with him my feelings about it. Of course an audience is an audience, and I respect reaching out in whatever shape form or fashion you must. But I still wasn’t too thrilled about seeing someone who I feel deserves to rock for a captive audience rockin at a motley crew of a show to an inattentive crowd. Regardless, it is what it is.  I support Elus. I know what he’s capable of and I know what his dedication towards this craft is. So I’m going to do what I always do. Create awareness. If you dig what you hear or see. Even before you share this info. Let Elus know. Email. Tweet. That’s what artists really need. They need to know that what they’re doing is actually reaching folks and affecting them.

Check out Elus on Twitter.com/kindgenius

P.S. Elus is an engineer. Get at him if you need any recording work done.

Murfs: The Untold Story of “The Smurfs”.

Murfs album art for forthcoming Trap record.

Murfs album art for forthcoming Trap record.

You ever wonder what was ‘really’ going on deep down in the forest with that village of small blue creatures? Why did Gargamel hate them so much? Well the truth just might surprise you… Those “Smurfs” were not what you believed them to be… No, not at all. Let’s just say they weren’t as innocent or remotely nice as they came off on television. It was all a front, like that bodega in your neighborhood that never restocks its shelves and has all the dusty merchandise. Today the truth is revealed…

I wrote this rhyme, well started writing this rhyme to something else last week some time. Then I heard this track and finished writing it. I had to rhyme over this. Fun times. At the end of the month I’m going to release something finally.  ‘Trap’. It’s going to be mostly brand new material. Some rap. Some beats. Some sound bites. Definitely interesting and a well put together piece of art. That I promise.
